Mei Wei Dumpling

mei wei dumpling

Let’s be honest, nothing beats ordering every single kind of dumpling or steamed bun on a menu (they’re small so you’re allowed to), filling your very own dipping saucer with all the soya, vinegar and chilli oil you can handle, and stuffing your face. This is welcomed and encouraged at Mei Wei Dumplings, The Star Gold Coast’s hawker-style Cantonese spot which is opening its its second location at Treasury Brisbane on Thursday 12 March.

Before you can feast, first you’ll have to find the entrance to the underground venue, which sits below Fat Noodle on George Street. Inside you’ll find a casual, contemporary space filled with booth and communal dining spaces, and striking hand painted murals on the wall.

Once you’ve nabbed yourself a table, sidle up to the counter and take your pick from Xia Jiao (prawn) and Shao Mai (prawn and pork) dumplings, pot stickers, noodle soups, honey glazed barbecue pork, Cantonese roasted duck and oh so much more. The Brisbane venue has even expanded on their Gold Coast sibling’s menu, with barbequed meats like char sui pork, crispy pork belly and crispy duck to share.  The icing on the cake? They’re open until 1am on Friday and Saturday nights, so you can feast all night long.

Chef de cuisine Louis Tikaram has devised a menu that includes classic Cantonese foods such as Peking duck, dim sum, and stir-fries, as well as more current dishes such as local seafood, BBQ, and roasted meats.
