The owner of  the Bluey house in Brisbane sells it for $1.845 million

The owner of a duplicate Bluey home, complete with a canary yellow facade and rainbow-colored playroom, has sold the property for a $1 million profit after being barred from publicizing the similarity by the BBC, which distributes the iconic Australian cartoon program.

Emma Hoskin is the delighted owner of ‘Bluey’s Heeler House’ in Brisbane’s Paddington neighborhood, which was converted with the aid of Airbnb to allow one fortunate family to stay there for a weekend in February.

Airbnb rented the Paddington property and covertly altered it to look like the Heeler Home from the BBC show Bluey, with one Australian family being allowed an exclusive stay earlier this year.

However, the owners were not allowed to make any references to the cartoon while the house was on the market or at the auction.

The house sold for $1.845 million on Saturday, netting the sellers more than $1 million in eight years, and the gag order has been removed.

The property was turned into Bluey’s home earlier this year as part of an Airbnb campaign in February.

One lucky family was able to rent the vividly colored Queenslander home for just $10 per night thanks to the initiative. Bluey fans would recognize the Heeler family house since it was completely customized to bring the cartoon to life and was full of quirky features.

The cartoon set was meticulously replicated, even down to the artwork on the walls of the family house featured in the program and custom-made copies of Bluey and her sister Bingo’s toys in their bedroom and toy room.

Ms Hoskin was advised in March that she could no longer link her home to Bluey because she wanted to sell it after spending a month on promotional material and various news sites taking up the story.

The three-bedroom house, which was changed back to its original white fence post look following the campaign, sold for $1.845 million to a buyer who ‘knows nothing about Bluey,’ according to the Courier Mail.

Ms. Hoskin purchased the home in 2014 for $730,000.

The British Broadcasting Corporation contacted selling agent Chris Gower in March, requesting that he remove a social media post linking Ms Hoskin’s house to Bluey.

But Mr Gower doubted it would make a difference today that a basic web search of the house yields hundreds of pieces of information linking the two, courtesy of the Airbnb competition.

Thousands of Australian families have passed by the house in recent weeks, prompting Ms Hoskin to deploy security officers and traffic controllers to maintain order.

The Bluey house, as it was known, was large enough to accommodate two people and two children.

The vividly colored property had a yellow front with a pink roof, a staircase leading to the front porch, and wonderful bedrooms with something to look at around every corner before it was rebuilt.

This was the first time visitors in Australia were offered a ‘Only On AirBnB’ experience, as the Home Alone house and Carrie Bradshaw’s New York City apartment from Sex and the City had already been reproduced in the United States.

Susan Wheedon, Airbnb’s Australia and New Zealand Manager, noted at the time that the property was ideal for families.

‘Like many parents with young children, I’ve been captivated by the adventures of Bluey and her family, which bring so much joy and quintessential Aussie humour to audiences across the globe,’ Ms Wheedon said.

‘We’re delighted to add Bluey, Bingo, Chilli and Bandit to our growing community of Airbnb Hosts.

‘And while we have some incredible homes on Airbnb, there will be nothing quite like waking up in the Heeler house and getting to live and breathe in Bluey’s magical world for one wondrous weekend.’

All objects within the residence, including plants, props, and toys, will be rehomed, according to an Airbnb spokeswoman.

They said, “Airbnb has also donated a number of items to the Queensland Children’s Hospital for patients to enjoy.”
